About Tanilba Bay
At the heart of Tanilba Bay, on the Tilligerry Peninsula beside the bay it is named for, stands one of Australia's oldest buildings. Convicts assigned to a naval officer after his 1831 land grant cleared the site and built Tanilba House from locally quarried stone, with lime mortar made from oyster shells. It is the oldest building in Port Stephens and is listed on the State Heritage Register.
