About Coal Point

Coal Point's history starts underground. On this peninsula south-east of Toronto and Carey Bay, on the lake's western side, the Ebenezer Colliery worked coal from 1841 until about 1906. The first mine was run by a missionary to the Awabakal people, who was also the first European to hold land between Coal Point and Toronto.
