The short answer

First, work out which grate is overflowing. The overflow relief gully near the laundry or bathroom is part of the sewer and is designed to overflow when the sewer blocks, so sewage there means a sewer blockage. A stormwater pit or yard grate overflowing in heavy rain is a stormwater problem. The fixes are different, so we identify the drain before we clear it.
