About Kearsley
From the village's founding in 1912 until 1964, the Abermain No.2 Colliery sat at the heart of Kearsley. It was the first mechanised mine on the Cessnock coalfield, and its coal went out along the South Maitland Railways. The village lies 5.7 km south-east of Cessnock, beside Werakata National Park, about 37 km west of Newcastle city.
