The short answer

Hunter Water requires every connected property to be risk assessed. Medium hazard properties need a testable double check valve and high hazard properties a reduced pressure zone device, installed immediately downstream of the water meter. The device must be tested after installation and every year, and registered with Hunter Water. A good installation leaves room to test, drains the relief port and keeps pressure loss in check.
