About Gillieston Heights

Until 1967 this corner of the City of Maitland was the mining village of East Greta. After a poll, residents renamed it Gillieston Heights to honour John Gillies, a one-time Maitland mayor and state politician. It lies about 5 km from the Maitland city centre and roughly 31 km north-west of Newcastle city, with Farley, Cliftleigh, Louth Park and Telarah among its neighbours.
