About Nelson Bay
On its own bay on the southern shore of Port Stephens, Nelson Bay is one of the area's main towns and a base for dolphin and whale watching, diving, surfing and fishing. It is about 60 km by road north-east of Newcastle, which is also where the nearest train line is. Tomaree National Park takes in its eastern edge, and Nelson Head Light, an unusual lighthouse from 1875, stands at the north-east corner.
